Primary school fail for Daniel Andrews

-

I'd like to express my disgust at Premier Andrews' proposed fast-track sale of the old Yarragon Primary School site.

Dozens of letters by local residents, against the sale, have been written and ignored by the State Government, and as the fast-track submission process is online-only, the Government has effectively cut out of the process many residents with opinions, but without access to computers or the internet.

Mr Andrews, your fast-track project appears to be a sham, and I grade it, and your democratic principles, an 'F'. Please re-submit.

Brian O'Rourke, Yarragon

However, the community needs to help halt this “fast track" process now. Check your letterbox this week for a leaflet explaining how you can assist. Fred and Evelyn Lillie, Yarragon Bronwyn Bishop’s pension. I too am a pensioner but receive less than 10 per cent of her pension. I regard my pension as generous but to qualify I had to risk my life as a conscript serving in infantry units in South Vietnam.

To be fair, I probably did achieve more government sponsored helicopter rides than Ms Bishop. Lynton Malley, Cloverlea

This explains, for example, why Christians are more perturbed about human embryos than about the life-saving promise of stemcell research or preach against condom use in Africa while millions die from Aids.

It is just as intriguing why so much energy among Christians is spent on opposing abortion while so little effort goes towards combating genocide.

Here Rwanda is a perfect case in point, where the complicity of the clergy in the slaughter of over 800,000 Rwandans is well documented.

No reliable moral inferences can ever be made about an individual based on the strength of his or her conviction.

Passionate belief does not equate to being a good person. The link between religion and morality, so often proclaimed, never rings more hollow than when religious dogma prevails over moral reasoning and genuine compassion. Chris Samplawski, Drouin
