Boolarra remain on bottom

- By Paula Hopson

Boolarra failed to secure a win during their round eight match up with reigning premiers Newborough, and remain at the bottom of the ladder with eight defeats in a row.

Newborough had plenty of chances at goal and the score could have been much worse.

Boolarra never looked like they would get anywhere close to a victory, particularly in the second half where they failed to score any goals and had only one chance which they missed for a point.

Newborough clearly dominated the second half and had plenty of opportunities to strengthen their victory. At the end of the final whistle the scores were Newborough 16-14 (110) to Boolarra 73 (45). Yarragon v Thorpdale Thorpdale showed why they are the ladder leaders with their victory away to Yarragon this week.

Thorpdale have now been the ladder leaders since jumping three spots to the top spot in round six.

Yarragon failed to score a goal in the first quarter with most of the game played at the Thorpdale forward end.

Six goals were secured making the scores at the end of the first quarter Yarragon 0-3 (3) to Thorpdale 6-3 (39).

Yarragon put on a better performance in the second quarter and had plenty of chances at goal but Thorpdale also kept up the pressure to maintain their lead.

More of the same happened in the second half of the game with plenty of Thorpdale players kicking through the centre posts. Final scores Yarragon 109 (69) to Thorpdale 17-12 (114). Yallourn/Yallourn North v Hill End Hill End gave the Bombers a bit of a scare at their home ground during the first quarter of their match up.

Although Yallourn-Yallourn North were securing more of the action up front, they failed to convert a few of their opportunities.

Hill End however, scored four goals and at the end of the first quarter Hill End were trailing by only one point, Yallourn-Yallourn North 3-7 (25) to Hill End 4-0 (24).

Yallourn-Yallourn North picked up the pace, giving Hill End little opportunity to get into the game and lead for the next three quarters.

Scores at the end of the final quarter were Yallourn-Yallourn North 14-16 (100) Hill End 9-3 (57). Yinnar v Mirboo North This eighth-round clash between Yinnar and Mirboo North was a thriller and provided more nail biting moments in the fourth quarter.

In a low scoring first quarter Mirboo North shocked the Yinnar boys by leading by four points, Yinnar 2-4 (16) to Mirboo North 3-2 (20).

Yinnar picked up the pace during the second quarter and dominated to get in front, giving Mirboo North little opportunity in front of the goal.

Scores at the end of the second quarter saw Yinnar in front by 22 points.

Both teams played well in the third and Mirboo North worked hard not to let Yinnar extend their lead.

The fourth quarter was exciting and Mirboo North picked up the pace and gave Yinnar little room to move.

But it was too late and the game ended with only one point in it, Yinnar 11-9 (75) to Mirboo North 11-8 (74).
