West Gippsland Genealogical Society made its contribution to National Trust Heritage Festival with a local public awareness campaign.

Society volunteers staffed the Palmerston St kiosk to make members of the local public aware of the society’s activities and resources available for those who would like to conduct local or family research.

Records in the society’s library include records of local schools and cemeteries, local history books and births, marriages and death registers from Victoria and interstate.

The library, located on the top floor of the Old Shire Hall, is available for the public to use during opening hours with all welcome. Opening hours are: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10am until 2pm, 10am until 3pm on the second Saturday of the month and from 2pm until 4pm on the fourth Sunday of the month.

The National Trust and thousands of Australian Heritage Festival event organisers and volunteers across the country held more than 1100 events to celebrate the nation’s fantastic heritage, history and culture.

Unlike previous years, support for the Festival will continue across the year with greater emphasis to building stronger community engagement.

The National Trust Heritage Festival began back in 1980 and has become Australia’s biggest festival of heritage and culture.
