Quartet give swing revival

-

Local musicians will combine their talents to present a feast of timeless swing and jazz music at Darnum Memorial Hall on Sunday afternoon.

The concert will feature Ian Christensen on clarinet, John Stevens on keyboard, Jack Pretty on double bass and Chris Waddell on drums playing as “The Swing Revival Quartet”.

The four local musicians will play many of the golden standards of the swing era from greats including Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and composers George and Ira Gershwin. It will begin at 2pm and conclude at 4.30pm. The concert has been planned so patrons can either sit, relax and enjoy two hours of great toe-tapping music, or take to the dance floor.

Admission is $10 per person, including afternoon tea served at interval.

For further information, call John Stevens on 0407 874 921.

Warragul Theatre Company will hold an information night for quirky musical “Song Contest – The Almost European Experience” tonight at 7.30pm.

The information session will be held at the St Paul’s year nine centre in Sutton St ahead of auditions on Friday and Saturday.

There will be eight performances of the musical presented in early November.

The creative team includes creative director Steve Wiegerink, musical director Hayley Abery and choreographer Sue Leggs.

The scripted comedy show is a mock-up of the popular Eurovision contest. The audience will get to download an app and vote on acts during the show.

It will be a family-friendly show.
