TOWN holds awards night

The club has been fortunate to welcome several new members at its past two meetings.

At its April meeting the club presented club badges to Bev Marshall, Maxine Christians­en and Janet Robb, while Glenda Kidd and Rosemary Perkins were presented with club badges at the May meeting.

Marian Richardson and Elaine Maisey have signed up as new members.

The club welcomed all and sincerely hope they spend many happy and fruitful years with Warragul Evening VIEW.

The club have been fortunate to have, as usual, two very entertaini­ng and informativ­e guest speakers. In April, the club welcomed Alicia Drew from Ambulance Victoria and in May, Immigratio­n Agent Joanna Hill.

The club have a Bunnings barbecue coming up on Sunday June 18 from 8am – 4pm.

A VB gala dinner will be held at Settlers Run Golf Club, Botanic Ridge 3977 on Thursday, June 22. Speakers are Tamsin Bearsley and Learning for Life student Eric Armando.

The club enjoyed an afternoon tea at Little Teacups recently, with lots of happy chatter and a great opportunit­y to have a catch up outside a meeting.

The next meeting of the Warragul Evening VIEW Club will be on Wednesday evening, June 7, 6.30pm for 7pm at the Warragul Country Club, Sutton Street.

The guest speaker will be Kevin McLaren from Community Policing.

The club will also be holding its trading table, with all donations for this gratefully accepted.

Warragul Ranges Probus

At the April meeting of the Warragul Ranges Probus Club, president Ralph Chesterfie­ld announced Jenny Neil would be vice president for 2017.

Guest speakers were Paul Carey and Carol Turner from the local firm of DCSI, who explained the ins and outs of the NBN telecommun­ications system.

In questions and answers time many and varied questions were asked and ably explained by Paul and Carol.

Anyone who is confused with the changeover can seek help from their providers.

A reminder that the annual fee is now being received by treasurer Graham March.

Don’t forget to book and pay for Christmas in July at Parnassis on July 13.

Probus Cluster day, which combines all local clubs, is on October 25.

To all sickies and those not feeling very well members are thinking of you and hope to see you at various activities soon.

The club thanks its members for sharing produce from their gardens. Lovely fig jam and green tomato pickles have been made.

The May meeting was held at the Warragul Country Club Thursday last.

Warragul Parkinson’s Support and Carers Group

The next meeting will be held on Monday June 5, 1.30pm to 3.30pm at The Petit Centre, Room 2 of West Gippsland Healthcare Group, 31 - 35 Gladstone St, Warragul.

The group will have the Carer Support Coordinato­r from Latrobe Community Health Service (LCHS), Kerry Jarvis discussing the services offered by Carer Programs and associated carer services in the area.

Accompanyi­ng Kerry is Janine Richie who is a Service Access Officer who will provide informatio­n about additional services at LCHS, including home care packages and aged care services.

Following the group will enjoy some afternoon tea. Come along and join to meet the friendly members of the Peer Support Group.

Warragul Stroke Support

The group had Joanne with her very amusing props at its last meeting. Everybody was laughing at her antics. This meeting will be a chance for anybody do tell members what they have been up too.

Anne and Mick are back from Port Douglas, and judging by the photos they had a blast.

For anyone who hasn’t been before, you will be sure get a warm welcome. WIGS The next meeting will be held over lunch at the Downtowner, Victoria St Warragul on Thursday, June 8 at noon.

Warragul RSL

President Noel Tucker chaired the monthly meeting of the Warragul sub-branch of the RSL on Monday, May 1.

He introduced guest speaker Wendy Wallace, who gave a history of the farm where she and her family lived over fifty years. As it is a green organic farm, they have to comply with the requiremen­ts of being green organic, so they do not use modern herbicides.

The next coach tour will be on June 20, with a trip organised for a visit to Gembrook. If you are interested in participat­ing, contact Norma Reynolds on 5625 4019.

Are you aware of the variety of activities undertaken by members? President Noel gave a special invitation for members to attend indoor bowls every Wednesday at 2pm. Come along and enjoy yourself.

The next meeting will be on June 5. Prior to the commenceme­nt of the meeting, a luncheon of soup and sandwiches will be served at 1pm.

With winter approachin­g, it will be a pleasant way to warm up before the official meeting commences at 2pm.

Warragul Arthritis Self Help

The next meeting of the Warragul Arthritis Self Help Group will be held in Pettit Room 2, West Gippsland Healthcare Group Community Services, Gladstone St, Warragul on Thursday, June 1.

At the meeting, in recognitio­n of volunteer week, members who have interestin­g and helpful roles with other groups are asked to give a short resume about what they do.

At the May meeting, West Gippsland Hospital occupation­al therapist Sue Aberdeen was guest speaker, topic being ‘care of hands with arthritis’.

Sue gave members plenty of advise about implements that can be found useful at home. Sue also stated that there are many different forms of arthritis that can affect the hands and that it is important to exercise them as well.

A print-out on joint protection principles was handed out to members present.

The annual Mother’s Day stall, which was held on Friday, May 12 at the Palmerston St kiosk in Warragul was very successful, and the group thank all who donated goods and those who helped on the stall on the day.

Forty-six people went on the annual trip from the Docklands to Williamtow­n on the tram boat recently, and a lovely day was had by all.

Members cruised downstream along the Yarra through Port Melbourne, past Swanston Dock under the Westgate Bridge, out into Hobsons Bay then onto Williamsto­wn Gem Pier. A walk around Williamsto­wn and looking at the historical sites and the shops was enjoyed by all. Because the trip was the same day as Lou Richards’ funeral, there were two flags flying at half-mast on Westgate Bridge.

The annual mid-winter lunch will be held at the Warragul Country Club on Friday, July 14 at noon.

Warm water exercise classes in the hydrothera­py pool are held at Warragul Leisure Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

One class is held on Tuesday afternoons, from 2pm until 2.30pm. One class is held on Thursday mornings from 9.30am until 10am. The cost is $5 per class, which includes tea/coffee and biscuits afterwards.

The Drouin T.O.W.N Club recently held its award night with Michelle Grist named weight loss queen for and Val Peacock graduate weight loss queen.

Weather permitting, participan­ts who have completed the Nordic Walking sessions meet socially in Civic Park, Warragul at 9.30am each Friday.

The group provides an economical way to lose weight with like-minded people, with help and incentives provided.
