Catani entrenched in top five

-

Catani further entrenched itself in the Ellinbank District football top five with a comfortable victory over Lang Lang, 11-22 (88) to 6-14 (50).

The Tigers kicked with the wind in the first term but failed to take full advantage, leading by just six points at the first change.

The Blues then made their move, booting six goals to two in the second to take a four-goal advantage into half time.

Wasted opportunities in the third quarter proved costly for the Tigers. They added 1-7, which squandered their opportunity to take a much-needed lead heading into the final term.

While the Blues were also wasteful in the final term, adding 3-8, they pressed home their advantage to take an important win to firmly entrench themselves in the top five.

Owen Fitzpatrick booted four goals for the Blues, with Dale Johnson, Antonio Benvenuto, Paul Pattison, James Alexander, James Williams and Hayden Lownds giving the visitor plenty of drive.

Dylan Sutton, Chris Brew, Lachlan Barwick, Cameron Brown and Nathan Usher best served the Tigers.

Blues take challenge

Catani were also comfortable winners in the Reserves, 13-11 (89) to 7-10 (52).

The Blues kicked four goals to one in the first term in a strong start, and responded to a Tigers’ challenge to reduce the margin to just two-points at the final change.

Josh Tymensen again pressed his claims for senior re-call, booting five goals. Other better players were Blake Matthews, Luke Macfarlane, Justin Evans, Cody Banbury and Nicholas Cullen.

Tim Elmes, Jack Hobson, Bryce Frazer, James Vela and Brendon Boulton helped the Tigers get back into the contest.

Blues smash Tigers

Catani were big winners in the under 18s, accounting for an undermanned Lang Lang 20-18 (138) to 6-1 (37).

The Blues kicked six goals to one in the first quarter and were never headed.

Liam Adams booted four goals, while Trent Adams and Riley McDonald each chipped in with three majors.

Other better players were Mitchell Davey, Thomas Glassbarrow and Angus Hetherington.

Mason Koffman, Sam Mascadri, Brad Ventura, Jye Stephens and Cameron Stephenson battled against the odds for the Tigers.
