Panthers take resounding win

Kilcunda Bass kept pace with the leading teams with a resounding win over Bunyip in round seven of West Gippsland football.

Jason Wells was deadly in front of goal for Kilcunda-Bass, booting seven majors as the Panthers ran away to win comfortabl­y, 17-20 (122) to 5-3 (33).

Bunyip’s grand final hangover of sorts continued, conceding five goals in the first quarter. The margin increased to 58-points as the Panthers kicked away to a commanding lead at the long break.

While the Bulldogs turned the screws in the third term, the Panthers were always in control and finished better, booting five goals to two in the final term to cap off a resounding win.

Taylor Gibson, Tim Smith and Mitch Golby each chipped in with three majors, while Adam Stock, Chris Endres, Brent Macaffer and Jaidyn Burgess created scoring opportunit­ies.

Brad Wolfe made a return to his best form following his long injury lay off and was named as Bunyip’s best player.

Darren Jameson kicked three goals, while Jason Fisher, Aaron Gray, Ben Jostlear and Joel Gibson were also prominent.

Cobras push Magpies

Finals hopefuls Cora Lynn showed good signs in pushing ladder leaders Dalyston.

Dalyston raced out to a 40-point quarter time lead and looked to continue their strong form, but the Cobras were able to hit back to make the Magpies earn the points, 14-7 (91) to 12-9 (81).

Facing a big quarter time deficit, the Cobras struck back, booting seven straight goals in the second term while keeping the Magpies scoreless to sensationa­lly hit the front.

The ebb and flow nature of the contest continued as the Magpies made use in the third quarter, booting six goals to one to set up a healthy lead.

Trailing by 25-points at the final change, the Cobras were still in the hunt and made a good fist of it with four majors in the final term.

It was the Magpies ability to kick two clutch goals in the final term that ultimately proved the difference in a thrilling match.

Darcy Brosnan booted three goals for the Magpies, while Chris Graham, Clay Tait, Travis Krause, Kurt Thomas and Kyle Kirk were also prominent.

Nathan Langley and Ryan Spierings led the way for Cora Lynn, each booting three goals.

Jeremy Monckton, Jackson Dalton, Shaun Sparks and Chris Johnson also led the charge.

Goon return to form

Nar Nar Goon rediscover­ed their best form, comfortabl­y accounting for Garfield 15-12 (102) to 6-8 (44).

Garfield won the final quarter, booting five goals to four, but with just one goal to that point found the Goon ultimately too strong.

The Stars kept it tight in the first half, but the Goon were able to work their way to a 36-point half time lead.

The Goon scored six goals to one in the third term to kick away to a commanding lead, before taking the foot off the pedal with the match in their keeping.

Jake Rose kicked three goals for the Goon, with Brendan Hermann, Trent Armour, Brent Hughes, Nicholas Henwood, Tyler Payroli and Zac Stewart named as the Goon’s best.

Garfield were best served by Harley Lacunes, Darcy Payne, Jarryd Drew, Tyson Payne, Daniel Helmore and Rhys Murphy.

Eagles swoop Island

Inverloch-Kongwak continued on its winning ways, comfortabl­y accounting for Phillip Island 14-17 (101) to 7-8 (50).

The Island held a narrow lead early, before the Sea Eagles were able to work their way to a strong lead in the second half, booting nine goals to four.

Tom Bartholome­w and Thomas Hams each booted three goals, while Lewis Rankin, Shem Hawking, Andrew Soumilas, Tom Wyatt and Ryan Sparkes helped the Sea Eagles take the ascendency in the second half.

Joel Piera, Hayden Moore, James Taylor, Nick Higginson, Michael Duiker and Corey Batt kept the Island in the game early.

Demons pip Giants

Koo wee rup accounted for an improved Korumburra-Bena in a thriller, winning by a solitary point 11-13 (79) to 12-6 (78).

A second quarter lapse almost proved costly for the Demons, as the Giants kicked out to a 23-point half time lead.

The Demons hit back strongly, taking a two point lead into the final change before holding on to win by the barest of margins.
