Running for a cause at Bona Vista

-

Bona Vista Primary Schools prep to grade 6 students ran their way around the school grounds completing five challenging stations last week.

As part of their annual cross country run titled ‘Run for a Cause’, the students raised much needed funds for the Red Shield Appeal. The students took off in small groups. As they progressed around the grounds checking in at all five stations, squeals of excitement could be heard.

Lieutenant Amanda Hart and Captain Angela Locke from the Warragul Salvation Army attended the event, informing the students that the money raised will go towards providing much needed comfort and support to people who have found themselves experiencing hardship.

On the day Bona Vista Primary School captains Miriama Cooper and Willow Mason thanked the supporters of the event including parents, student teachers and the Salvation Army.

Without their assistance this type of activity could not be held.

The Red Shield Appeal is The Salvation Army's signature fundraising drive, which helps fund its vast network of social and community services. The Red Shield Appeal began in 1965. Each year, The Salvation Army appeals to the Australian community for donations to ensure it can give hope where it is needed most through our social welfare and community service programs.

Services range from providing shelter for the homeless, assisting families in crisis through practical support and financial counselling, to guiding people with addictions through to a clean, healthy lifestyle, with vulnerable Australians relying on these services each day.

The Red Shield Appeal is run over the months of April, May and June each year with the Red Shield Doorknock taking place on the last weekend in May.
