Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Wrong at many levels

-

I became intolerant of Roger Marks' intolerance a long time ago, so his latest ‘effort' title ‘Intolerance’ (Gaz, 6/6) was no surprise.

If Roger is wondering why his letters elicit so much negative response, perhaps he might look at his pejorative terminology.

Referring to those who support same-sex marriage as “rainbow warriors", rather than simply those who disagree with his point of view, or suggesting “with all the facts out there, I would slaughter anyone who took me on" exposes Roger's growing desperation as legal SSM inevitably looms.

Roger, you've been having a public debate on this subject, in The Gazette, for some time now; you've put up arguments and others, like myself, have responded, obviously to your chagrin.

Still, if you want to stand on a soap box in the centre of Warragul, and verbally espouse your views in your usual inimitable fashion. I'm sure some of the passing parade will ‘take you on'. Perhaps you may come up with some previously unheard arguments to which you darkly refer, but I doubt it.

And you, Don McLean ‘Out of Control’, (Gaz, 6/6), who quibbles over the definition of a word...who cares? Where is the denial of free speech and democracy?

You, Roger Marks and I have had our says, as have Alan Joyce and Margaret Court, whose views inadvertently have been enhanced by her celebrity status, and include a particularly vitriolic public and personal attack on Casey Dellacqua. By the way, Don, do you know the difference between a referendum and a plebiscite?

‘Bully and brawl’, Roger? A non exclusive tactic, I would have thought, but denying a significant, and long persecuted, sector of society the respect and dignity they deserve, at no cost to you, Roger, Don or myself, is just wrong on so many levels. John Duck, Trafalgar
