Awards: Deb Thomas, Natalie Sloan and Kylie Proctor. C grade: Drouin 31 lost to Maffra 44. Drouin let Maffra run away with it in the first half. They worked super hard to win the second half - and did.

Trying to shut down the Maffra goalers, goal defence Abby Craig worked tirelessly to stop the ball flying in. Sarah Sharpe came into goal keeper and played a fantastic one-on-one defence. She used her height to apply pressure to the tall goaler as well as fast feet to cut off some moves.

In attack, Sam East made a welcome return with copious amounts of strapping after about a decade long hiatus. She shot well in goal shooter and helped other goalers create plays.

Jess Murray was slightly out of her comfort zone running centre, but her drives onto the ring were perfectly timed and always into space. Awards: Sarah Sharpe and Abby Craig. Under 17: Drouin 43 lost to Maffra 48. It was a top of the tables clash and certainly drew the crowds.

Drouin started with intensity and confidence, shooting the first five goals. Taylah MarshIrwin was superb with her shooting and rebounding, mixing up her moves. April Bethune backed her up with great feeds and strong drives into the circle.

The girls worked tirelessly all game with oneon-one defence, creating plenty of turnovers.

A little frazzled in the second half, Drouin forced passes and allowed Maffra to get in front. Georgia Henderson’s steady game head was helpful. It was only minor patches which let the Hawks down.

Awards: Taylah Marsh-Irwin and Bethune. Under 15: Drouin 44 defeated Maffra 34. In was an outstandin­g game by the Hawks who started with intercepts to win the first quarter. Full court relentless pressure created turnovers, enabling the Hawks to build.

The girls backed each other up, drove hard onto the circle, let it go quickly and converted where it counts – on the scoreboard. Awards: Kiarna Craig and Holly Andrews. Under 13: Drouin 2 defeated by Maffra 42. The baby Hawkers had yet another game which showcased their improvemen­t. Whilst the scoreboard isn’t yet reflecting that improvemen­t, anybody who watches the girls can attest how far they have come.

There were great passages of play, with strong defensive pressure all down the court.
