Catani crash to Buln Buln in upset

Following the euphoria of defeating ladder leaders Neerim-Neerim South the previous week, Catani crashed to suffer defeat at the hands of Buln Buln, 10-7 (67) to 6-5 (41).

The loss saw the Blues fall to third on the ladder and back into a fight to secure an important top two finish, while for the Lyrebirds it was an important upset win as they aim to stave off their rivals for a place in the finals.

The Lyrebirds took a narrow lead into quarter time before kicking away in the second term, booting five goals to two to set up a handy 31-point buffer at the long break.

The Blues threatened in the third term, booting four goals to one to close the gap to 14-points and enter the final term with some hope.

But the Lyrebirds were able to hold firm when it mattered most, booting two goals while keeping the Blues to just two behinds to take an important win.

Leigh Borland, Matt Gray, Mitch Nobelius, Darcy Brown, James Taylor and Jake Pierrehumb­ert helped the Lyrebirds to victory.

Tim Lonsdale, Wade Haysom, Paul Pattison, Brett Williams, James Williams and Aiden Cuff helped ensure the Blues remained in the contest.

Buln finish strong

Buln Buln were comfortabl­e winners over Catani in the Reserves, winning 10-6 (66) to 5-10 (40).

The Lyrebirds booted three goals to one in the first term and held a narrow lead throughout, before finishing off with three goals to one in the final term.

Bryce Monahan booted four goals and was best afield in a successful return. Jake Baker, Jakob Simpson, Carlton Helliwell, Sean Symes and Paul Willis also helped the Lyrebirds hold off their determined opposition.

Jay Bosanquet, William Temby, Nicholas Cullen, Justin Evans, Liam Keily and Shane Warren kept the Blues in the contest.

Blues take win

Catani were comfortabl­e winners over Buln Buln, 10-13 (73) to 6-6 (42).

Despite the final scoreline, there were several lead changes throughout.

The Blues kicked out to a quarter time lead, before the Lyrebirds hit back in the second term.

Taking a 12-point lead into the final change, the Blues kicked away with three goals in the final term.

Lauchlan Gregson and Riley McDonald each kicked three goals, while Thomas Gowans, Thomas Glassbarro­w, Trent Adams and Liam Adams also helped the Blues to victory.

James Fowler, Brett Kettle, Harry Wans, Sean Symes, Michael Rowlinson and Chad Hall kept the Lyrebirds in the contest.

Lyrebirds in thriller

Buln Buln scored a thrilling win over Warragul Industrial­s in the under 16s, holding on to win 7-8 (50) to 7-6 (48).

In a remarkable trend, the scores were tied at each of the breaks before the Lyrebirds edged ahead in the final term.

Thomas Jessup, Max Chesterfie­ld, Josh Pearn, Jaiden McDougal, Blake Hasan and Brodie Lowe helped the Lyrebirds hold on.

Harrison Perry, Darcy Whelan, Oliver Marek, Lachlan Wilson, Brad Young and Luke Kinder helped Industrial­s threaten to take the points.
