Buln Buln hold onto fifth

Buln Buln held onto fifth position on the Ellinbank and District football ladder, kicking away after three-quarter-time to comfortabl­y account for a persistent Poowong, 14-9 (93) to 6-10 (46).

With the Lyrebirds without coach Matt Gray due to a cork sustained during the match against Catani, Poowong were able to stay in touch for the majority of the contest, the Lyrebirds’ 12point lead at the final change the greatest buffer it had enjoyed to that point.

The Lyrebirds ran the game out well, booting six goals while keeping the Magpies to three behinds to see the final margin blow out.

Luke Nobelius put in a best afield effort and kicked three goals, with Bryce Monahan and Lex Wright also registerin­g three majors.

James Davidson, Mitch Nobelius, Jack Martyn and Jake Baker also helped the Lyrebirds kick away.

Thomas Wyatt booted three goals for Poowong, with Conor Cunningham, Alex Doria, Jack Hazendonk, Matt Cozzio and Joseph Bisognin also helping the Magpies stay in the contest before a final term fade out.

First half sets up win

A strong first half set up Buln Buln’s win over Poowong in the Reserves.

Six goals to one in the first half set up a handy buffer for the Lyrebirds, before the Magpies matched them in the second half.

Five goals to four in the second half saw the Lyrebirds win 11-5 (71) to 5-7 (37),

Jack Symes, Thomas Park, Matthew Dawson, Cartlon Helliwell, Tim Davine and Jeremy Jagoe helped the Lyrebirds to victory.

Jake Lewis, Rhys Schulz, Lachlan Bourne, Mitch Whiting, Nathan Bacon and Steven Bromby led a better effort for the Magpies in the second half.

Lyrebirds win strong

Buln Buln were strong winners over Poowong in the under 18s, 16-7 (103) to 2-6 (18).

The Magpies matched it with the Lyrebirds early and were still in touch at half time, before the Lyrebirds kicked away.

Four goals in the third term, followed by a further eight in the final term saw the margin blow out.

Sean Symes booted four goals, while James Fowler registered three majors.

Brett Kettle, Reece Campbell and Chad Hall were also prominent.

Josh Thomas, Bailey Murphy, Ash Schmidt, Tane Derrick, Scott Loughridge and Jake Henry helped the Magpies keep in touch early.

Buln Buln win big

Buln Buln were big winners over Longwarry in the under 16 make-up match, 13-15 (93) to 0-3 (3).

The Lyrebirds booted four goals to no score in the first term and were never headed, gradually building their lead throughout.

Jack Storey booted three goals, while Jaryd Kelly, Reid Strachan, Charlie Wans and Max Chesterfie­ld were also prominent.

Jonah Serong, Aidan Fox, Bailey Stephens, Seth Ashton, Harrison Stephens and Cameron Reid were the better players for the Crows.
