Eyewatch on local crimes

-

Community members will now have a greater role in policing across the Baw Baw Shire with the launch of an Eyewatch social media page.

The Eyewatch – Baw Baw Police Service Area page was launched on Facebook on Saturday.

Eyewatch is a platform that allows police to share updates about crime and other community safety initiatives via Facebook.

It allows local communities to connect with local police and share crime and safety information.

Baw Baw psa inspector Chris Major said the social media page would be a good communication tool between police and the community.

He said it was an opportunity for police and community members to work together “to ensure Baw Baw is a safe and vibrant community.”

Mr Major said the Eyewatch page would feature “persons of interest” caught on CCTV footage in relation to local crimes.

He said it also would provide an online tool to share targeted messages to the community, including resources to assist with family violence.

Mr Major said the page also was an opportunity for police to share information about family violence, road policing and ice use.

He said it was a way of developing campaigns specific to those area and sharing resources with community members.

Mr Major said the page was an opportunity to encourage community members to follow and engage with the Eyewatch page and assist police investigating local matters.

“We want to give the Baw Baw community an opportunity to interact with us and stay up-todate with the activity of their local police.

“It also allows us to open up more of a discussion with our community and let them know what we are doing to enhance their safety.

“We have seen some great results from other Eyewatch pages. They have proven to be a successful tool in identifying offenders, solving crimes and finding missing people.

“We want to encourage residents, business owners and community organisations to follow us on the new Eyewatch page,” he said.

The Baw Baw Eyewatch page was the 30th page to be launched and police are encouraging the community to get involved and “like” the page.

The new Baw Baw Eyewatch page is available at: https://www.facebook.com/eyewatchbawbaw/

Eyewatch is not a platform for reporting crime and is not a replacement for calling Triple Zero (000) for police attendance.
