Eight arrested during police day of action
Persons wanted on outstanding warrants, traffic offences and licensed premises were the focus of a “day of action” by police across the Baw Baw region on Saturday.
Police arrested eight people and issued 20 penalty notices during the day of action that involved extra police being rostered on during Saturday’s shifts.
The day of action involved police from across the Baw Baw police services area, with police even attending at Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort.
Inspector Chris Major said the day was a success and allowed police to travel to areas that were often not targeted because of other regular police tasks.
Mr Major said police would run similar operations in the future where additional police will be rostered on to undertake pro-active police initiatives.
The planned police operation allowed police members to provide additional attention to outstanding warrants, bail compliances, family violence recidivist offenders, patrolling liquor licence venues, high risk crime locations and road safety traffic policing.
There was a more visible increase in police patrols across the police services area.
The aim of the operation was to discourage disorderly conduct, illegal activity and increase community confidence.
Police arrested eight people who were wanted on outstanding warrants for failure to appear at court. The offenders were all arrested and bailed to appear at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
Highway patrol members targeted traffic offences and issued 20 penalty notices for a range of offences.
Mr Major said the day of action also enabled police to visit licensed premises, particularly in outlying areas including Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort.
He said it was a good opportunity to visit licensed premises to ensure they were complying with liquor licensing obligations.
“It is pleasing to say all the premises were well conducted and licensees were fulfilling their obligations,” he said.
