Doctor of science
Former Warragul North Primary School student Hylton Menz was recently awarded a Doctor of Science from the University of New South Wales.
Dr Menz, who attended the Warragul school for several years in the 1970s, now lives in Melbourne and works as a research professor in the field of podiatry at Latrobe University, Bundoora.
His parents Ron Menz and Isobel Coulton lived in Warragul from 1973 to 1980 before moving to Bendigo. Ron, who moved to Neerim South in recent years, proudly said Hylton was a product of the public school system.
Dr Menz, now 45-years-old, is a world authority on foot health in older people and its wider implications on health ageing and wellbeing in later life.
He has been published extensively in journals and collaborated in international studies, including the famous Framingham Study at Harvard University. He was awarded a PhD in 2002.
