U3A Baw Baw holds 14th Literary Lunch
The U3A Baw Baw will hold its 14th annual Literary Lunch at Black Tie in Warragul on Friday, August 11.
The lunch is a celebration of writing and a great social event. This year’s event will feature an interesting presentation by author Patrick Morgan on his book “The Vandemonian Trail”.
The book recreates the early events of a large contingent of unsavoury people from Van Diemen’s Land to Victoria - especially through Gippsland - in the mid-1800s.
It is a combination of fact with dramatised events following the influx of mostly ex-convicts.
This non-profit event is a highlight on the calendar for both U3A Baw Baw members and the general public.
U3A or University of the Third Age is a movement of retired or semi-retired people who enjoy lifelong learning. The lunch opens at 12noon for a 12.30pm start. The cost to attend is $35 per person, which includes a two-course lunch. Drinks are available at bar prices. Bookings and payment are required by Friday. For further details and payment options, visit u3abawbaw.org.au or call Gordon on 0437 086 968.
The Warragul Camera Club will host the annual Gippsland Photographic Exhibition from Thursday at Red Tree Gallery in Jindivick.
This interclub photographic competition features exhibits from five Gippsland camera clubs – Latrobe Valley, Sale, South Gippsland, East Gippsland and Warragul.
The exhibition will be open daily between 10am and 4pm until Wednesday, August 30. The official opening will coincide with World Photography Day on Saturday, August 19, with the gallery opening at 2.30pm for the official proceedings at 3pm.
The annual Gippsland Photographic Exhibition has been running since 2011 when the Warragul Camera Club instigated the event. It aims to foster fellowship between neighbouring camera clubs and the host club is selected on a rotational basis.
Each club will submit 10 framed images this year, totalling 50 exhibits at Red Tree Gallery.
The Victorian Association of Photographic Societies provides a bronze medallion to the winning club. There is also the perpetual “Roy and Elaine Berryman Trophy” for the winning image.
Two of the competition rules stipulate the images must have been taken in Gippsland and the exhibition must run encompassing World Photography Day.
Warragul Camera Club continues to grow, with a current membership of 74 people. It holds three activities each month - a meeting night, a tutorial night and an outing.
