Key matches for finals aspirants

-

Teams in the Ellinbank District Football League top five have the chance to further consolidate their position during round 15 to be played out on Saturday.

The match between ladder leaders Neerim-Neerim South and thirdplaced Warragul Industrials at Western Park will headline the round.

Aside from a slip up against Catani, the Cats have been the team to beat and will be a good measuring stick for an in-form Industrials team pushing for a top two finish.

The Industrials play their home ground well and, following impressive wins over Ellinbank and Longwarry in the past fortnight, should push the Cats in what is shaping as an enticing clash.

The Cats currently sit four points clear on top and appear on track for the minor premiership, while Industrials sit in the middle of a pack jostling for the valuable double chance.

Sitting four points ahead of the Industrials and Ellinbank, Catani will look to maintain its current hold on second spot when they play NilmaDarnum.

While the dream of playing off in consecutive finals series is effectively over for the Bombers, they will be looking to finish off the season strongly and help shape the make up of the top five along the way.

With the Blues a better side at home, they will need to be on guard at Darnum.

Ellinbank and Longwarry will face off in what is a crucial clash for both sides.

The Eagles will be aiming for victory as they continue to push for a top two finish, while victory is equally important for the Crows.

Currently sitting four points outside the top five, the Crows enter the match knowing a loss could see that gap extend to eight points.

Buln Buln currently hold the advantage, given they will be favoured to overcome Lang Lang.

Only defeated after the final kick of the day the last time the two sides met, Longwarry will enter the match with some confidence.

Local rivals Nyora and Poowong will face off.

Both sides will enter the match confident they can snare the four points and put some smiles on their supporters’ faces.
