Buln Buln take hold of fifth
Buln Buln ensured it kept its hold on fifth position on the Ellinbank District football ladder with victory over Nilma-Darnum, with the result all but ending the Bombers season.
While the Lyrebirds hold a one game gap over the sixth-placed Longwarry, the margin to the seventh-placed Bombers extended to four games with four left to play.
The Bombers put in a competitive effort and remained in touch at threequarter-time, but the Lyrebirds were able to go on with it and build on their 13-point lead.
The home side booted four goals in the final term, while holding the Bombers to just two behinds.
Bryce Monahan was key to the Lyrebirds’ victory, booting six goals. James Taylor, Trent Baker, Darcy Brown, James Davidson and Tim Stoll were also among the better players.
Josh Wilcox, Luke Lange, Robert Campbell, Chris Cameron, Jean Bezzene and Harry Moore helped the Bombers put in a competitive effort.
Buln thump Bombers
Buln Buln thumped Nilma-Darnum in the Reserves, 21-22 (148) to 1-2 (8).
The Lyrebirds kicked five goals to nil in the first term and were never headed, booting eight majors in the second term and five in the fourth to blow the margin out.
Buln Buln goal kickers and better players were not available at time of going to print.
Under 16 player Korey Carrison kicked the consolation goal for the Bombers.
With five members of the Van Eyk family in the team , four of them were named in the better players (Liam, Brendon, Lodivicus and Nicolas). Corey Wright and Luke Galley also battled against the odds.
Buln big winners
Buln Buln were big winners over Nilma-Darnum in the under 16s, 9-16 (70) to 3-4 (22).
The Lyrebirds held a narrow advantage before kicking away in the second half, scoring six goals to two.
Jaryd Kelly booted three goals, while Nelson Brew, Jack Chesterfield, Jacob Blackstock, Thomas Jessup and Jack Storey were also prominent.
The Bombers were best served by Blake Davis, Ben Giles, Riley Wakefield, Deacon Wallace and Tim Ruddell.
