Blues hold second on ladder

-

Catani held second position on the ladder, comfortably accounting for Poowong 14-14 (98) to 4-8 (32).

The Blues set up the win with a strong first quarter, booting seven goals to one to open up a handy buffer.

While the Magpies tightened up from that point, even winning the final quarter, the damage had been done in a first quarter burst.

Travis Kitchin, Aiden Cuff, Mitchell Davey, Dale Johnson, Antonio Benvenuto and Paul Pattison helped the Blues make a fast start.

Lachlan Green, Thomas Wyatt, Jack Hazendonk, Tim Hancock, Josh Chiavoroli and Gavin Notman led an improved effort from the Magpies after quarter time.

Blues hold edge

Catani held the edge over Poowong in a Reserves match that featured many lead changes.

Both sides were inaccurate in the windy conditions and traded the lead in a low scoring affair, before the Blues booted three goals to nil in the final term to come away with the victory, 515 (45) to 3-11 (29).

William Temby, Adam White, Liam Keily, Nathan Lineham, David Marson and Brendan Green led the final quarter charge for the Blues.

Steven Bromby, Josh Harvey, Mark Stephens, Lachlan Bourne, Kyle Aitken and James Clark put the Magpies in a position to challenge for the game.

Blues kick away

Catani kicked away to a big win over an undermanned Poowong, 19-16 (130) to 2-4 (16).

The Magpies fronted with just five under 18 players, relying on most of the under 16 team to double up, one of which had to wait to come on after getting sent off late in the final term of the preceeding match.

The Blues booted six goals in each of the first and second terms to have the match in their keeping before taking the foot off the pedal in the second half in what was becoming a training run.

Liam Adams and Riley McDonald were simply far too good for their younger opponents, booting 11 goals between them.

Thomas Gowans, Lachlan Seppings, Jackson Caddy and Thomas Glassbarrow were also prominent.

Mitchel Van’T Hof, Jake Henry, Jordan Knox, Darcy Burgess and Mathew Burr battled against the odds for Poowong.
