Bloods no match for Bombers

- By Paula Hopson

Trafalgar proved to be no match for the mighty Bombers, who amassed a huge 107-point win at the end of their round 15 clash.

Yallourn-Yallourn North are just smashing the competition right now and steaming ahead of their rivals.

The first quarter started off slowly with Campbell MacInnes taking the first kick at goal but missing and going for a point behind for Yallourn-Yallourn North.

Tyler Brown did not miss his first opportunity and kicked the first goal of the day for the Bombers.

Trafalgar’s Jamie Hines missed his first kick at goal only managing a point behind.

Dean MacDonald took a great mark and lined up for his first goal of the afternoon and Yallourn-Yallourn North’s second.

Both sides were getting forward but the Bombers were making better use of their opportunities and Trafalgar struggling to make much happen in front of the goal when they moved forward.

A great chance for the Bloods when Harrison Malady took a great mark in front of goal to kick Trafalgar’s first goal of the afternoon.

It was a low scoring quarter and neither side playing with any gritty determination. Scores at the end of the first term Trafalgar 1-3 (9) Yallourn-Yallourn North 2-2 (14).

Dale Murphy almost kicked a goal in the opening seconds of the second term but the ball travelled left for a point.

Shortly after Murphy had another shot at goal from 30 metres which made it through the middle of the posts for the first goal of the quarter for Yallourn-Yallourn North.

There was little action during the middle of the quarter until Tim Philiips kicked his first for the Bombers in the 16th minute and was quickly followed up by another goal to extend their lead.

Lachlan Little ran into an open goal and kicked another for Yallourn-Yallourn North.

Benjamin Doran for Trafalgar got their first opportunity on the blow of the whistle to score their only goal of the quarter.

It was all the Bombers in the second term Trafalgar 2-3 (15) Yallourn-Yallourn North 6-6 (42).

Trafalgar were under siege from Yallourn-Yallourn North in the opening seconds of the third quarter.

A free kick to Little in front of the posts get Yallourn-Yallourn North’s first for the quarter, quickly followed by a goal from Dean MacIntosh.

The Bombers were now starting to stamp their dominance on the game.

A rare opportunity for Trafalgar resulted in a goal to Rhys Holdsworth.

Rowan Reids kicked his second goal for the Bombers and their 11th goal of the game.

It was five goals to two for the quarter 11 minutes into the third term.

Tyler Brown kicked a loose ball through for his fourth and Shelcott kicked a goal from 45 metres, getting his first of the afternoon and the seventh goal of the quarter.

More goals were added to the scoreboard for Yallourn-Yallourn North as they started to run away with the game at this point.

It looked highly unlikely that Trafalgar could get themselves back in the game despite kicking two goals in the quarter. Scores at the whistle Trafalgar 4-5 (29) Yallourn-Yallourn North 15-6 (96).

It was all the Bombers again in the final quarter as the goals just kept on coming.

The Trafalgar boys did nothing to stop the dominance of Yallourn-Yallourn North and all was lost at this point in the game, the loss hurting Trafalgar’s finals aspirations.

Final scores Trafalgar 5-5 (35) Yallourn Yallourn North 22-10 (142).
