Drouin Dragons receive surprise

-

The Gippsland teams played at home on Sunday against Mirboo North in overcast weather with the threat of rain looming during the day.

The rain reached Drouin around 2pm and with the already poor condition of the pitches, the senior game had to be called off due to the unsafe condition of the pitch.

The surprise of the day came when Erika Wassenberg and Don Sinclair from the Drouin Lions Club arrived and presented a cheque for $1500 to go towards the development of the Drouin Dragons junior teams.

The club thanked the Drouin Lions Club for their generosity. Under 8 It’s always a challenging game when Drouin play Mirboo North, but the under eight’s did a fantastic job. They kept the pressure on and did very well in defence.

There were some exciting breakaway moments for the Dragons due to some excellent passing and ball skills.

It was great to see Max from the under six team help out the under eights, and he did a great job.

Harlan was goal keeper and did an excellent job.

Three awards were handed out and they went to Aidan Franz, Lacey Bryant and Harlan Thomson. Under 10 The theme of the week for both teams was defence, with the match remaining goalless until well into the second half when Jordan opened the scoring for Drouin.

The defensive trio of Hugo, Lucia and Isobel were rock solid at the back, and helped the Drouin goalies (Will, and then Ayden) keep a clean sheet through the game.

A further goal late in the second half, again from Jordan, gave Drouin a much-needed boost for the rest of the season.
