Four people airlifted after two accidents

-

Four people were airlifted from two separate collisions at Trafalgar and Neerim South on the weekend.

The Princes Freeway was closed for several hours on Saturday night following a serious collision east of Trafalgar at the Telephone Rd intersection.

East bound lanes were closed and traffic diverted along Waterloo Rd after a two car collision on the highway at 9.40pm.

Police said a grey Toyota sedan with a driver and four passengers, was travelling behind friends.

The first vehicle crossed the east bound lanes from Waterloo Rd at the Telephone Rd intersection, with the intention to turn right into the west bound lanes.

Police said it appeared the Toyota, the second vehicle, hesitated and then proceeded to cross the highway.

Police said the Toyota and a Mitsubishi travelling east on the Princes Hwy collided.

The Mitsubishi attempted to avoid collision and crashed into the rear driver’s side door of the Toyota.

A man and woman from Traralgon were in the Mitsubishi.

Five people from Wantirna South were in the Toyota. Three of the occupants were airlifted from the scene.

Police said two were airlifted to The Alfred Hospital and one to Royal Melbourne. They all sustained serious injuries.

In another incident on Sunday, a Piedmont man was airlifted after his arm became crushed under a vehicle at Neerim South on Sunday.

Police said the single-vehicle collision occurred on Neerim North-Noojee Rd at 7.30pm.

The vehicle lost control and left the road, rolling several times and coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Police said the passenger, a 45-year-old Langwarrin man, left the scene to seek assistance.

The driver’s arm was stuck under the vehicle for about an hour while the passenger sought help.

The passenger returned with help and took the Piedmont man to Neerim District Soldiers Memorial Hospital, where he was airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital with major nerve damage to his arm.
