Blues take down Eagles

A strong finish helped Catani account for Ellinbank for the second time this season.

The Eagles held a narrow lead across the first three quarters of the match, but could only manage two behinds in the final term as the Blues added four goals to kick away and win 10-9 (69) to 7-9 (51).

Nicholas Visser, Dylan Williams, Paul Pattison, Antonio Benvenuto, James Alexander and Brandon Scammell led an inspired final quarter effort to get the Blues over the line.

Keegan Bott kicked three goals for Ellinbank, while Daniel Barrand, Brett Masterson, Andrew Quirk, Sam Barwick and Cameron Parker were also among the better players for the Eagles.

Catani held the edge Ellinbank in the Reserves.

The Blues held a narrow lead throughout and won 8-7 (55) to 6-6 (42).

Josh Tymensen kicked four goals, while Jarrod Shields, Ryan Williams, Drew Campbell, David Marson, William Temby and John Traynor also helped the Blues to victory.

Sam Wyatt kicked three goals for Ellinbank, while James Scammell, Michael Pandolfo, Jack Pandolfo, Daniel Burke and Tyler Hotchkin helped the Eagles remain in the contest.

Blues peaking

Catani continue to peak towards the back end of the season in the under 18s, brushing aside Ellinbank in a big win, 18-16 (124) to 5-3 (33).

The Blues booted seven goals in the first and second term to take a commanding lead into half time.

The Eagles were more competitiv­e in the second half, booting five goals to four.

Mitchell Hovenbitze­r booted six goals and Trent Adams five as the Blues took control,

Liam Adams chipped in with three majors, while Ryan Smith, Ryan Hanegraaf, Kiam Rose and Thomas Cairns were also prominent.

Reece Kestle, Elliot Kennedy, Dale Armstrong, Ethan Davey, Tom BuckleyBro­wn and William Robertson led the competitiv­e second half effort for the Eagles.

Eagles prepared

Ellinbank proved it is well prepared for finals with a comfortabl­e win over Neerim-Neerim South in the under 16s, 10-5 (65) to 4-2 (26).

The Eagles gradually built their lead throughout.

Callum Auldist, Corey Garlick, Wells Sam, Lewis Kennedy, Josh Tongs and Cooper Bagnara helped the Eagles hold the edge.

Kyle Bright, Josh White, Lynden Loveday, Lachlan Smith, Lachlan Guy and Max Albert were among the better players for the Cats.
