Competitive matches in badminton
It was hard to pick the Mid Gippsland junior badminton match of the week this week as there were three good matches that qualified for that honour.
It went to the D grade match between Warragul Red and Drouin Gold. This match could consolidate second place on the ladder and the much useful second chance for the finals.
The first doubles was a very hard game, going to three sets and even though Warragul won the game, the aces were even when added up.
The second doubles was yet another three set game but this time Ella and Olivia from Warragul were able to give their team a lead of eight aces.
Isabelle and Willem got Drouin on the scoreboard with a good win in the last doubles and the ace lead again.
Ella had a tough game against Jacob but put Warragul in the leading position of winning three games.
Isabelle though, won her game against Kiara to give Drouin an outside chance of a win for the night.
It came down to the last game of the night and Olivia had a win in her singles, but Willem got enough aces, that it was equal aces and the match points had to be split between them.
Next week will be interesting as to who will get that second position, with Warragul red having the bye this week.
There was also the top of the table clash in E grade between Drouin and Labertouche and the unexpected win by Warragul White in B/C grade.
Unfortunately three teams lost premiership points this week for yet again not putting in their score sheet. Results: A grade: Warragul 4/271 def Labertouche Blue 2/226; Ellinbank 4/270 def Labertouche White 2/253.
B/C grade: Ellinbank 4/195 def Warragul Blue 2/167, Warragul White 4/206 def Warragul Red 2/198.
D grade: Warragul Red 4/226 def Drouin Gold 2/226, Warragul Blue 6/216 def Drouin Maroon 0/131, Ellinbank bye.
