Bunyip, Garfield in junior flag deciders

Both Garfield and Bunyip will have teams in next Saturday’s West Gippsland junior grand finals.

In low scoring preliminar­y finals at Garfield on Saturday Garfield won 3-11 to 2-8 against Inverloch-Kongwak in the thirds but the Stars went down in the fourths to neighbour Bunyip 3-9 to 3-7.

There was very little throughout both contests.

In the thirds Garfield kicked 2-4 to 1-3 in the final term to clinch the win.

Damion Denysenko, Max Dyball, Noah Glen, Jonty Bow, Alex McMillan and Will Collins led the way for the Stars.

Bow, Glen and Brett Coffey kicked the goals.

The fourths game went down to the wire.

Bunyip led by two points at quarter time, Garfield by two and four points at the next two breaks.

It came down to the final term where Bun- yip’s 1-3 to Garfield’s three behinds claimed the grand final spot.

Best for the winners were William Papley, Sage Tapner, Harrison Booth, Joel Pope, Heath Morgan-Morris and Wade Gray with Morgan-Harris kicking two of the goals and Matthew Nadenbousc­h the other.

Garfield’s best were Lachlan Sauze, Thomas Fitzpatric­k, Brendan Elliott, Ty Jackson Miller, Zac Soutar and Bailey Friend.

Friend kicked two of the Stars’ goal and Oliver Wibley one.

Bunyip will play Phillip Island in the fourths’ decider while Garfield will tackle Cora Lynn in the thirds hoping to reverse the second semi-final result.
