Tears for magnificent gum tree

-

There were tears in our house on Saturday morning as we watched, yet another, magnificent mature, landmark gum tree cut down and removed from the Drouin skyline.

Unlike other trees that have been removed recently in the same area, this tree was healthy and strong.

It would seem that this time the tree was removed purely for the financial gain of developers. Our tears reflect sadness for a society that no longer values the beauty of a giant gum, the shade it brings, the wildlife it shelters, or most importantly the joy and peace it offers the community.

It would be nice if the developers could see past the immediate financial value of their projects and work to keep the natural beauty and history of our town intact at the same time. Sigh. Haynes family, Drouin and wealth of mankind to just a few elite.

This campaign is aided and abetted by vested political and financial interests, and the tag along ‘useful idiots’.

Come on Australians!. Do your research. Think about it and, vote accordingly.

Noel Hewitt, Warragul will overwhelm the voices of those rare individuals, just at the moment when they are needed most.

There is a risk that even the voice of reason itself will be lost in the shrill twittering of the chats and mockingbirds.

Max Thomas, Yarragon
