New bridge for Allambee
A new replacement bridge will be built at Allambee Estate Rd, south of Yarragon, after the Federal Government last week announced it would meet half the $1.04 million cost.
Baw Baw Shire Council will provide the other $520,000.
Residents of the area have had to cope with a number of access issues over recent years including landslips that collapsed sections of the road and forced its closure for periods.
Member for McMillan Russell Broadbent said another important local bridge replacement on Jolley Rd at Tonimbuk had also received funding in the third round of the bridges renewal program announced by Infrastructure and Transport Minister Darren Chester.
The estimated $695,000 cost will be shared by the government and Cardinia Shire council.
Mr Broadbent said the new bridges would improve safety and connectivity for motorists and the drivers of many trucks that service properties in the two areas.
A third project funded in McMillan electorate is reconstruction of the Bena-Kongwak Rd bridge at a cost of about $1.1 million.
Particular projects for bridges renewal program funding are proposed by local councils.
Mr Chester said since its introduction the program had supported bridge works worth almost $380 million.
He said 186 bridges would be replacement of upgraded as a result of round three funding.
Mr Chester said the government had limited its contribution to each project at $5 million to allow a wide distribution of the money.
