Dusties thrill in overtime

-

This was by far the most thrilling game of the day.

In a very slow scoring quarter, both sides tousled for the ball with great defensive pressure on show. Many turnovers meant the goals were hard earned. At the end of the quarter, scores were level at 4all.

Poowong settled first in the second quarter and scored six goals before Dusties could reply with one. The Poowong goalers showed poise and accuracy, ensuring conversion at every opportunity given to them. Poowong held a healthy 13-7 lead at half-time.

The third quarter saw a Dusties revival, powering to level the scores part way through. Dusties had turned the table and were making the most of every intercept or turnover. Poowong could only manage two goals for the quarter, giving Dusties the lead 16-15 heading into the all-important final term.

Both teams knew how crucial the last 10 minutes were going to be and came out firing. Dusties extended the lead and looked to be sitting pretty as the time ticked over. However, Poowong were not going down without a fight and a few last minute goals in a row saw scores tied, 21-all. Extra time was now upon them.

The nerves were high as both teams gave it all they had. The goalers had a tough job at each end, making sure every goal counted. After five minutes at each end, scores were again locked.

Play continued with the team to get two goals ahead first to be crowned the premiers. It took minutes of play until the excellent defensive rebounding and control of their midcourt saw Dusties clinch victory.
