Heather leads Drouin to win
The pennant team of Drouin Croquet Club travelled to Wonthaggi last Tuesday to play round five in the Gippsland Croquet Competition.
Conditions were considerably better, except for a keen wind. However, the Wonthaggi greens were dry and running quickly.
The opening round of the singles saw Heather Bullen (Drouin, handicap 5) again having to step up into the number one position. She found the going tough, going down 2/7 against Mike Kelly (Wonthaggi, handicap 4), who made good use of his knowledge of the game and well thought out tactics.
Both Nanette and Michael Fry (Drouin, handicap 9 and 11) won their first singles 7/5 and 7/5 against Wonthaggi’s Virginia Wheeler (handicap 8) and Ray Ogle (handicap 10).
Vicky Rodgers (Drouin, handicap 11) went down 7/6 in a closely contested game against Sue Cartwright (Wonthaggi, handicap 9).
The next round of singles saw Drouin take three out of four, to give the club a two-game lead overall.
