Matt speaks on his road to wellness

-

A raw and relatable insight into overcoming mental health and addiction challenges will be held at the Warragul Country Club on Monday, October 16.

The open community event will feature former Warragul resident Matt Runnalls who at just 26-years-old is an international speaker on mental health and CEO of Mindfull Australia.

He will share his story of overcoming mental illness to help start the Warragul audience on their “road to wellness”.

Matt said those who would most benefit are “people that are experiencing some form of mental illness or some challenges through their life at the moment”.

He added people facing addiction issues and their carers will also gain.

“Really there is no person that won’t benefit,” said Matt. “Everyone should know this information and understand. You never know who will be next.”

Matt, who recently returned from some 50 speaking engagements in the United States, will share the stage with fellow international speaker on mental health Pat Lawson of “3 Words” in New South Wales and bestselling author and mentor of the YouthYou program tackling drug and alcohol addiction Glenn Munso.

Each will share their “lived experience”, showing the power of speaking up about mental illness and addiction.

“We are all young. We actively live and manage with mental illness and overcoming addiction. It helps people relate.”

Matt said Glenn has recently opened his second facility in Drouin to mentor people struggling with drug addiction. He said the holistic approach was achieving a high success rate.

In addition to the open community event, the pair will be undertaking a Gippsland Speaking Tour of sporting clubs, community groups, schools and businesses.

“Gippsland is the area that matters most to us,” said Matt.

Matt said Mindfull Aus is all about grassroots and connection. It has been running as a notfor-profit for the past 14 months.

He is keen to share his story, techniques and give back to the town where he lived from birth until finishing school. “The community needs it,” he said. “Evolve or Remain: When Values Align” will be held in the Warragul Country Club function room on Monday, October 16 at 7pm to 9pm.

Tickets are $10 per person and can be booked at www.eventbrite.com.au.
