Ken covers musical spectrum
Guitar virtuoso Ken Nicol will give an intimate, up close and personal concert at the VRI Hall in Warragul on Saturday, October 21 at 7.30pm.
It is a rare opportunity to see the former member of chart-topping folk rock group “Steeleyespan” perform in Warragul.
The concert will also feature Warragul musician and songwriter Dominic Finley.
As a guitarist, Ken Nicol is one of the most skilled and exciting players anywhere today. As a singer, he is capable of evoking wide range of emotions in his audience. As a songwriter, he demonstrates these abilities in his clever and well-crafted material.
Ken’s music covers the spectrum from blues to rock, effortlessly taking in folk, jazz, ragtime, ballads and more along the way.
In the early 70s, Ken formed the band “Nicol and Marsh’s Easy Street” with Pete Marsh, and it wasn’t long before they landed their first major record contract. They went on to produce four albums to widespread acclaim.
This prompted Ken to make his home in the US where he played gigs as a solo acoustic performer.
Ken returned to the UK in 1989, working the circuit as a solo performer and going on to produce many solo albums.
In 1997, he joined “The Albion Band” as lead guitarist and singer, writing much of the band’s material himself and co-writing with Ashley Hutchings.
Next, he successfully joined forces with “Steeleye Span” - most known for hit “All Around My Hat”) a collaboration that lasted for many years.
Ken is currently touring Australia and New Zealand promoting his latest album “Days of Reason”.
The opening set will feature Dominic Finley. Dominic is a British musician, novelist, singersongwriter and former member of the 80s multi-million sellers “Cutting Crew” who had hit “I Just Died In Your Arms”.
Following a career working as a session musician, Dominic immigrated to Warragul in 2010 and has released several albums under his own name.
The VRI Hall in Queen St, Warragul will open its doors at 7pm prior to the 7.30pm concert.
All tickets are priced at $20 with complimentary drinks and nibbles on offer.
