Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Great showcase

-

A huge thank you to all the groups and Gippsland producers who contributed to the dinner held on September 25 for the United States group of community leadership delegates who visited Neerim South.

Firstly huge thanks go to Paul Ford assisted by his wife Louise, for having the insight and expertise to showcase our area to the high standard achieved.

The members of the Neerim South Food Relief, Barbara Hill and Judy Gleeson are to be congratulated on the organisation of the menu and achieving the sale of more than tickets on the night.

We remain grateful for the generous Gippsland producers who supplied their products on the night.

The night would not have been so successful without the many helpers from Neerim district community groups during the day organising and setting up the J. D. Algie Hall.

The night itself owes a big thanks to David and Maria Antonie for their coordination assisted by Kitty McCall, Lee Quine, Bill Stratham, Coleen Mason, Grayson McNolty, Warren, Heath and Jessie Darcy Chandra Abrahams, and Bill Finch.

Thank you for the great displays which were set up in the meeting room to further highlight our area, who we are and some of our history.

Willie Langoor from Noojee Historical Society had two computers set up on continuous display, showing the history of the timber industry through the years and the tourist attractions the little town of Noojee has achieved more recently. Willie also had a business plan into the future.

Neerim District should be very proud of the part it has played in this momentous event.

Jacqui Brown, Neerim South

Bouquet to Joan who set up and looks after our street library in her front garden in Drouin. She is our inspiration.

The people of Windsor Avenue need to have a good look at how they park their cars. This is a narrow street and when they park out on the street opposite each other it is very hard for traffic to negotiate between two cars, even harder when a car is parked two feet out from the curb. Please use your driveways or park up on the nature strips. This way you will not end up with a damaged car.

Bricks to Warragul Bus Lines and Public Transport Victoria for not having user friendly timetables available online or at the stops.

The timetables only identify about two stops out of 15. Such a disappointment for taxpayers and those dependent on public transport. Bricks to drivers who exit the smaller William St car park via the entrance lane off Mason St. A brick also to the Baw Baw Shire for no maintenance of the one way directional traffic arrow on the laneway surface. It is hardly visible. More bricks to the catalogue tosser. Does the person paying them know the way they do the job.

Bouquets to Mad Cat Constructions and their work on the new roundabout at the intersection of Mason and Albert Sts. A busy spot being managed efficiently and with a minimum of fuss for motorists who are also playing their part with patient and safe driving.

A brick to Drouin Lions Club for not installing signage at Hamiltons Rd or Lardners Track indicating the direction of the Garden Expo at Lardner Park. Fortunately a local resident assisted me.

All submissions must include a full name and address and daytime contact number, however, contributors will not be identified in print. Please send your submissions to editorial@warragulgazette.com.au or use our website www.thegazette.com.au or our mobile phone: 0458 923 429.
