Great Chase benefits disability groups
Twelve local disability service providers shared benefit from the Great Chase fundraiser held at Warragul Greyhound Racing Club on Thursday.
With up to $2000 in funds and prizes available, about 200 people from Moe through to Pakenham attended the event.
Greyhounds from Geryhound Victoria’s Greyhound Adoption Program roamed between the attendees, who took great delight in petting the animals.
The event is part of a series of functions held at 13 country and metropolitan greyhound racing clubs in Victoria, culminating in the Great Chase final, which will be held at The Meadows Greyhound Racing Club in Broadmeadows on October 25.
Local disability groups, including staff, clients, their families and carers, enjoyed an afternoon of racing, lunch and the chance to share in cash prizes.
Each group that attended the meet at Warragul is eligible to attend the final at The Meadows, where a prize pool of $24,000 is up for grabs. First prize at The Meadows will take away $10,000.
Greyhound Racing Club Warragul manager Adrian Scott said the main aim of the event was to promote social inclusion and provide an enjoyable day out for staff and clients from a range of community organisations.
The Great Chase was first held in 2003. Since then, more than $500,000 in much-needed funds has been donated to organisations through the Great Chase.
