Williams legacy lives on
Jett Williams – the only daughter of the late American country music icon Hank Williams – will perform at the Morwell Club on Sunday.
Hill End country music fan Elaine Bechaz is organising the concert, one of only two Jett will perform in Victoria.
Having seen her perform to 165,000 people in a US concert, Elaine said she was honoured to be asked to organise the Morwell concert.
The venue provides an up close and personal performance followed by the opportunity to meet Jett and browse memorabilia, said Elaine.
“It’s brilliant,” said Elaine. “We’re really honoured to have her in the Valley. I really can’t wait to meet her.”
Jett, who will appear alongside Australia’s “The Drifting Cowboys” and Terry Gordon OAM, is described as Hank’s “lost” daughter.
The product of a brief relationship between marriages of Hank and Nashville secretary Bobbie Webb Jett, Anthea Belle Jett was born on January 6, 1953 – five days after her father died.
Jett’s story has all the ingredients of a great country song – but for her, it’s real life.
Jett didn’t find out who her father was until the early 1980s and a legal battle followed. She was recognised as Hank’s only daughter in 1985.
All the while, Jett pursued her ambition of becoming a country singer like her dad. This is her first tour to Australia.
“She’s recorded some of her own songs and a lot of her father’s songs that he wrote and never got to release,” added Elaine.
Jett Williams will perform at the Morwell Club on Sunday at 1pm. Tickets for the show are $49 per person. For bookings, call Elaine on 5635 4292.
