Strong start to season
Longwarry bowlers travelled to Warragul to open the WGBD pennant season on Saturday. Division three had a comfortable 85-shot win while division six went down in a five-shot narrow loss. Division three: Longwarry 6/143 defeated Warragul (3) 2/58. Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) defeated David Gatewood’s team 41/11.
Well led by skip Barry, Longwarry played a great team game to record a comfortable 30shot win.
Glenn Pask, Lloyd Maisey, Ken White and Slim Eastwell (skip) lost to Steve Pallot’s team 18/22.
In an even contest, Longwarry was just beaten by a more consistent Warragul team.
Eric Peterson, Grant Pask, Ian Peterson and Russell White (skip) defeated Len Duncan’s team 51/8.
Longwarry started well and went into the break with a commanding 25/3 lead. After tea, Longwarry continued to play well as a team. Russell was a stand out as the team recording a convincing 43-shot win to be the King rink.
Simon Counsel, Mark Serong, Hoggy Mitchell and Hank Metselaar (skip) defeated Chris Wilken’s team 33/18.
After an even game before the break, Longwarry was able to record several multiple ends to come home with a strong 15-shot win. All team members contributed well.
Division six: Longwarry (2) 2/43 lost to Warragul (5) 2/48.
Eddie Bluck, Ron Sutton, Fred Pitcher and Brian Mason (skip) defeated Eric Porter’s team 26/22.
Longwarry, who welcomed new member Fred to the team, got off to a slow start by losing the first six ends. They started to play well after the break to record a great four-shot win.
Sharon Twite, Peter Smethurst, John Watts and Gerry Wakefield (skip) lost to Trevor Croft’s team 17/26.
Longwarry was beaten by a better team on the day. They managed to win six of the last eight ends to make the score look more respectable.
