Women in cricket forum

-

The Warragul District Cricket Association will hold a female cricket information forum tomorrow night.

Women and girls who may be interested in having a go at cricket (no experience necessary, only an interest in cricket) are urged to attend.

The forum will be held on Wednesday, October 18 at Eastern Park cricket ground, Normanby St Warragul at 7pm.

Warragul Cricket Club will make their training nets available from 6pm for those who would like to have a hit beforehand.

All are encouraged to attend as all questions can be answered.

With the rise of female cricket in Australia, the Warragul District Cricket Association is trying to gain interest from any female in the district on the possibility of starting an all-female competition within the Association.

Currently the only female competition available locally is the Gippsland Cricket League women’s competition on Sundays, in which the Warragul Hotshots compete.

The Warragul Hotshots women’s team has been playing cricket every second Sunday during the season since their formation in 2010. It started as an idea to get more females on a cricket pitch in the Warragul and District Cricket Association, and it has come a long way.

The Hotshots played off in a grand final after only three years in the Gippsland Cricket League competition.

Not only has the Association seen young girls and older women come and go, it has seen the immense improvement of every player as they were a part of the team. Most of the players enjoy playing in a female only environment with no pressure.

The aim of any competitive sporting team is to win, but the larger goal is to give every team member a fair go and to encourage them to take part and improve their skills.
