Cameos help Warriors

Western Park (6-146) (121):

Another week, and another bevy of cameos with bat and ball has helped Western Park maintain their unbeaten start to the season, this time taking out a 25-run win over Garfield-Tynong.

Having won the toss and electing to bat, the Warriors made their way to a promising total of 6-146 on the back of several handy contributions from the top and middle order.

Joel Batson enjoyed some time in the middle and made a steady 28 opening up, and Sam McMillan (26), Jack Barnes (24) and Wil Cole (a 17-ball 15) all chimed to frustrate the Titans bowlers.

In reply, Dave Burn (2-9 off six) and Angus Geals, who continued his excellent start to the season with 3-29, ran rampant with the newball to dash Garfield-Tynong’s hopes of victory.

The all-important wicket of Tate Burgmann was snared by Geals – the star batsmen making just five – and with the scoreboard reading 5-34 there was no coming back for the Titans, as they were dismissed for 121 in the 40th over. def. Garfield-Tynong

Two man show

Drouin (109) def. Warragul (94): It was a two-man show as far as run-scoring was concerned during the Drouin and Warragul’s clash on Saturday, and it was Jon Perry who had the last laugh as his Hawks snatched a 15-run win over the Gulls.

Having been sent into bat, Drouin were in trouble early on against some tight bowling from the likes of Jarred Carroll (4-16 off seven) and Nathan MacFarlane (3-19 from eight) but Perry was able to master the conditions – and his opponents – on his way to 56.

Having posted just 109, it seemed that Drouin would fall short against their underdog opponents, especially considering the aggressive start provided by Daniel Best, who needed to make an early trip to Melbourne.

He helped Warragul race to 1-53 from just nine overs, but once he was removed for 49 by Jarryd Leworthy the wheels well and truly fell off for the Gulls.

Proving unplayable, Leworthy’s snared the scarcely believable figures of 5-4 from his 6.1 overs – and he triggered a collapse of 9-41 that saw Warragul bundled for 94 in the 28th over.
