Iona fortunes turn

Iona (9-166) def. Buln Buln (115): The Swamps Tigers endured a torrid season in 2017-18, but their fortunes have seemingly turned, as they took home a comfortable 51run win over Buln Buln in their round two clash.

It was once again the batsmen who did the bulk of the damage for Iona, and their aggressive intent has paid dividends in their opening two encounters.

While Jack Symes (3-26), David Scott-Smith (3-21) and Thomas Park (3-4, including a hattrick) snared regular wickets the Lyrebirds couldn’t stymie the scoring rate, and at the end of their allotted overs Iona made 9-166.

In reply, Buln’s batsmen struggled badly with just two of their line-up making it to double figures.

Jack Symes’ 55 dominated the innings, and after 36.3 overs they were bundled out for just 115.

Stags take thrilling finale

Neerim District (6-115) def. Garfield-Tynong (9114):

In a thrilling finale to their division three clash, Neerim District emerged with the tightest of victories over Garfield-Tynong, snatching a one-run win in a game that went down to the final ball.

Following a top order collapse, the Stags’ innings was rescued by John Fleming who notched a fluent 40 to carry Neerim District to 6-115 from their allotted overs.

In reply, the Titans progress was foiled by a consistent loss of wickets – caused largely by Brett Bransgrove’s haul of 4-12.

Nonetheless, the lower order inched closer with every over, but tragically for the Titans they couldn’t muster the final blow and fell to an agonizing defeat.
