Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Division 4

- By Adam Johnson

Division four is shaping up to be an even competition with all sides registering a win after round two.

In a reversal of fortune Warragul, Drouin, and Western Park all banked their first points of the season.

Hawks swoop Bulls

Drouin 130 (39.3) def Bunyip 90 (32.4): Choosing to bat first, Drouin overcame a slow start to comfortably account for Bunyip.

Early wickets to Ben Sharpe (2/7) and Ben Grant (1/27) left the Hawks reeling at 3/27 before a 30-run partnership between Andrew Downie and Tom Wyatt put the innings back on track. Downie was the first to go after making a hard earned 21 while Wyatt top scored for the home side with a gritty 26.

Drouin skipper Gavin Mills held things together through the middle and lower order to finish with 24 not out.

Brendan Agnoleto chipped in with 2/37 but it was Bulls cult figure Ian ‘Biscuit’ McConnell who returned the best figures with 4/26 coming from his eight overs.

In reply, the visitors got off to a positive start with Ben Sharpe (35) leading the charge. His early work proved to be in vain however as a late flurry of wickets saw Bunyip lose 6/10 to hand Drouin a percentage boosting win.

Harrison Forwood was the pick of the bowlers with 3/8 off just 2.4 overs with Gavin Mills providing ample support. Mills was virtually unplayable, snaring 2/10 off eight overs which included four maidens.

Gulls on winners list

Warragul 3/126 (29) def Hallora 8/122(cc) Warragul made the winners list with a dominant batting display from Dan Perrett helping the Gulls across the line with 11 overs to spare.

Perrett struck three boundaries and two sixes on his way to top-scoring with 39 not out.

Nicholas Mulqueen (24*) made a handy contribution along with Amandeep Singh (30) who got the visitor away to a solid start.

Earlier in the day the Kangas battled through their allotted overs despite a restrictive spell from Daniel Whitten who picked up 3/18 from eight overs.

Joseph Youngman countered late in the innings with an aggressive 38 not out (three fours and two sixes) to be the best of the batsmen.

Warriors take points

Western Park 4/99 (35) def Jindivick 97 (32.2) Western Park emerged victorious in a low scoring encounter with Jindivick.

Electing to send the Jumping Jacks in, the home side applied plenty of pressure early on before a lower order collapse saw the visitors dismissed for less than one hundred.

Daryl Bagnall top scored with a patient 26. Nicholas Bagnall (12) and Kevin Larkman (15) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Alex Gavin (3/19) wrapped things up for the Warriors on the back of tidy spells from Michael Rabl (2/16) and Sam Laffy (2/13).

After a cautious start the Parkers easily reached the target four wickets down.

Kieran Morton (29) again provided a solid foundation with recently recruited Duy Vo (28*) and club stalwart Rod Breeden (17*) able to capitalise late in the day.

Gordon Winstone was the best of the bowlers with 2/11 off eight overs.
