Longwarry (2-95) def. Yarragon (93): Longwarry endured a disappointing start to season 2017-18 against Western Park in round one, but they threw any doubts they may have had over the ability of their line-up on Saturday, as the Crows handed Yarragon an eight-wicket thrashing.

Having bundled their opponents out for just 93, Longwarry maintained the rage with the bat, and there was little that the Panthers could do to stem the flow of runs.

Ed Miller continued his promising start to the summer with a fluent unbeaten 38 at the top of the order, and Scott Kelly chimed in with 23 of his own to help the Crows reach their target in just the 25th over.

Earlier in the day, the constant pressure applied by the Longwarry bowlers proved too much for Yarragon to overcome, with Ben McKenna (2-14 off eight) and Zac Wright (3-19) especially effective with the ball.

Viotto valiant but in vain

Western Park (8-162) def. Jindivick (5-151): Sean Viotto battled valiantly with an excellent 75 for Jindivick in their hefty run-chase against Western Park, but unfortunately for the Jindivick captain his team-mates couldn’t match his efforts, and the Warriors walked away with an 11-run win to continue their unbeaten start to the year.

Pursuing 8-162, the Jumping Jacks enjoyed a 101-run opening stand between Viotto and Tyler Constantine (who made 25) but it was a cautious partnership, and by the ‘death overs’ there was simply too much to do as the bowlers held their nerve.

Earlier in the day, Stephen Boltong flexed his ‘muscles’ with a hard-hitting 54, while Kristian Thompson chimed in with a breezy 31 to lift Western Park to an eventual winning total.
