Drouin enjoy huge day

Drouin Bowling Club had a huge day at Saturday pennant, with all sides recording wins.

Division one had a 16/4 win over Traralgon RSL, as did division four over Yallourn.

Drouin had good scores in the division four match, with one end scoring six shots and another end scoring seven shots.

One rink finished up winning by eight shots and two rinks played out a draw, while one rink went down by just two shots.

Division three scored a good 18/2 win over top side Yinnar, while division six had the bye. Results: Division one: Drouin 16/109 defeated Traralgon RSL 4/87.

Janice Aubrey, Maureen Leighton, Matthew Schreyer and John Leighton (skip) defeated M. Gardner’s team 33/24. Ron Brodie, Ian McCartney, Nesta Coldebella and Adam Proctor (skip) lost to R. Sizeland’s team 21/34. Graeme Aubrey, Sheryl Atkinson, Mick Fleming and Mark Atkinson (skip) defeated R. Lukey’s team 35/7 to be the best rink. Steve Barr, Mary Firth, Dennis Throup and Gary Johnson lost to B. Hobson’s team 20/22.

Division three: Drouin (2) 18/116 defeated Yinnar 2/70.

Robert Cole, Matthew Eccles, Mal Anderson and Noel Rubenstein (skip) lost to T. Shore’s team 23/20. Samantha Atkinson, John Bulmer, Col Jeffrey and Col Finger (skip) defeated T. Roache’s team 36/11. Pauline Appleyard, Andrew Blaby, Phil Jarred and David Tayles (skip) defeated W. Harris’ team 27/24. Laurie Innes, Chris Stubbings, Dale Hedrick and Graeme Woolstencroft (skip) defeated M. Delahaye’s team 33/12.

Division four: Drouin (3) 16/96 defeated Yallourn (4) 4/90.

Clive Newman, Mal Anderson, Ray Watson and Barrie Price defeated Michael Holroyd’s team 27/19. Merv Appleyard, Lloyd Smith, Kevin Potter and Peter Hone (skip) drew J. Garrel’s team 23/23. Don Mowat, Terry McFadzean, Mary Firth and Neil Bullen (skip) lost to K. Evans’ team 22/24. Les Gouge, Gwen Price, Bill Eacott and Ron Proctor (skip) drew Darryl Williams’ team 24/24.

Division six: Drouin had the bye.

Tuesday

It was another mixed bag for Drouin’s midweek bowlers with one win, one draw and one loss. Division one: Drouin 16/74 defeated Traralgon RSL 0/53. M. Leighton (skip), S. Atkinson, M. Rhodes and L. Firth won 27/12 to be best rink winners this week. P. Appleyard (skip), M. Schofield, M. Firth and G. Aubrey won 28/23. D. Hamilton (skip), J. Aubrey, L. Jeffrey and L. Innes won 19/18.

Division two: Drouin (2) 2/56 lost to Traralgon RSL (2) 14/69.

G. Price (skip), T. Cole, J. Woolard and L. Kinrade lost 12/26. I. Dawson (skip), D. Hone, L. Rippon and L. Fox lost 26/16. V. Rosenquist (skip), M. McMillan, P. Hone and B. Cole won 28/17.

Division four: Drouin (3) 5/56 drew Traralgon (4) 5/56.

F. Halligan (skip), J. Caulfield, J. Lang and P. Yeo lost 19/27. K. Dixon (skip), M. Hogan, J. Johnson and M. Appleyard won 37/29.

Over 60s pairs

Drouin’s Denis Throup and John Leighton progressed to the men’s over 60s pairs Strzelecki region final at Morwell on Thursday.

The pair defeated the Traralgon pair of Ian Kirkup and Ian Hilsley on Sunday, October 22 to progress to the region final.

Denis and John played well against the Inverloch pair of Frank Seaton and Wayne Parks representing SGBD. However, fives on two ends didn’t do them much good. They had a narrow loss.
