Division 3

- By Sam Laffy

Iona (7-168) def. Jindivick (7-165): Iona’s incredible start to the summer continued in their clash with Jindivick on Saturday, with the Swamp Tigers claiming a tight three-wicket win over the Jumping Jacks.

Facing a hefty chase of 166, Iona’s innings began in dire circumstances – with Michael Neilson (1) and Brayden Hoskins (1) both back in the pavilion early.

However, the usual suspects came to the fore to rescue the Iona chase, and Luke Ferguson and Mick Taylor combined for a rapid partnership that inspired the middle and lower order.

Jayson Barwick (26) and Kieran Lenders (an unbeaten 34) continued the assault on Jindivick’s change bowlers, and helped Iona over the line in the 35th over, putting the Swamp Tigers in the box-seat to claim a spot in one-day final.

Warriors wilt

Buln (6-197) def. Western Park (106): Western Park’s unbeaten run ended abruptly on the weekend, with the Warriors wilting against some fearsome hitting from the Buln Buln lower order; going down to the Lyrebirds by 91 runs.

Having fought hard with the ball in the first half of the innings – with Mick Talbot (3-20 off eight) and Jason Batson (2-39) effective – Western Park’s bowlers lost their line and length in the ‘death overs’, as Ryan Bishop and Brendan Spicer accelerated.

Spicer was particularly brutal on Stephen Briggs in the final few overs as he careered along to an unbeaten 63, and Buln’s eventual total of 6-197 was far out of Western Park’s reach.

Adam Feltham worked hard for his 31 in the middle order, but there was scant resistance elsewhere and the Warriors were dismissed in the 34th over for 106.
