Bail refused for man charged with rape

A 58-year-old Warragul man has been remanded in custody after being arrested and charged with rape, sexual assault and assault.

Vince Mancarella, of Dollarburn Rd, was refused bail when he appeared at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

He was remanded in custody to appear for a committal mention hearing at LVMC on January 9, 2018.

Sexual Crime Squad detectives arrested and charged Mr Mancarella on Wednesday in relation to an alleged incident at Officer in July.

Police allege the woman was sexually assaulted after accepting a lift from a man on the Princes Hwy at Beaconsfield on Sunday, July 30 at about midnight.

It is alleged the woman was taken to Starling Rd in Officer where she was sexually assaulted.

Mr Mancarella was arrested and charged with rape, sexual assault and assault.

He was remanded in custody overnight to appear at court on Thursday.

His bail application to the court on Thursday was refused.
