Refugee welcome zone

The Wellington Shire Council in Gippsland is being urged to declare a refugee welcome zone.

Latrobe City Council, Bass Coast and South Gippsland Shire Council have already done the same.

Why hasn't Baw Baw Shire Council acted on this front? It would promote harmony, social cohesion and respect for human rights.

The declaration could also be an excellent way to take a strong stand against racism and discrimination, and help foster a culture of mutual respect and diversity.
