Commendation for assault help
A man who saved a teenage girl from an assault in Warragul earlier this year has received a police commendation.
Chris Bowman of Moe was working in Warragul on February 10 when he intervened in an assault on a 16-year-old girl who was walking to school.
Detectives said Mr Bowman was driving past when he saw a man assaulting the girl near Eastern Park in Normanby St.
Detectives said Mr Bowman stopped the assault and also apprehended the offender.
“His actions prevented a serious assault and likely escalation of the assault,” detectives said.
The offender was arrested and charged. He was later convicted and sentenced to imprisonment.
Mr Bowman was presented with the commendation during a divisional commendation ceremony at Moe last week.
His civilian commendation noted his bravery and intervention.
