Cemetery plaques re-set

-

The Drouin Rotary Club, responding to a request from the Drouin Cemetery Trust, has joined members of the Cemetery Friends Group in an ongoing project to reset and re-level several based memorial plaques in the lawn section of the cemetery.

Over time, many plaques have either sunk, become uneven or set too high to allow efficient maintenance and mowing activities.

Recently inducted member Ian Symons is leading the project on behalf of the club with several members assisting.

Club director of service projects Roger Playdon initially organised the work.

Mr Symons said that it was a worthwhile project for the club to undertake and commented on the neat appearance of the cemetery grounds. He also thanked A1 Concrete Recycling for supplying a truck-load of filling to be used in the work.

Chairman of the Drouin Cemetery Trust Tim Wills (also secretary of the Rotary Club), thanked the Rotarians for their ongoing support for the work of the Trust.

He said the Friends Group meets at the cemetery every second Thursday at 9am.
