Singing scholarships

-

The Latrobe Chorale will hold two open rehearsals as well as conducting auditions for their Youth Scholarship Program over the next three weeks.

Open rehearsals today (Tuesday) and Tuesday, November 21 will welcome anyone who would like to sit in with a view to perhaps becoming a member. Both rehearsals will start at 7.30pm in St Andrews Presbyterian Church Hall, Morwell with light refreshments provided.

In 2018, the chorale is planning for two concerts. The choir is now learning Hadyn’s “Mass in the Time of War” for a mid-year concert.

As well as this, the chorale’s Youth Scholarship Program is getting ready to audition young singers. This scholarship program is for young people aged 16 to 21 years and includes four paid scholarships and other fee exempt places in the Latrobe Chorale.

It is hoped the program will infuse the chorale’s ranks with some of Gippsland’s most talented and promising young vocalists. It is anticipated the award of a Latrobe Chorale Youth Scholarship will become an important achievement in an aspiring vocalist’s resume.

Youth Scholarship Program applications close on Friday. Auditions will be held on Saturday, November 25 in Morwell.

By recruiting new singers and welcoming back former Latrobe Chorale members, the group hopes to build its numbers ahead of presenting Handel’s “Solomon” in collaboration with other choirs in late 2018. This piece needs a big choir and the chorale to be in full voice to succeed.
