New shelving for Olivia’s Place
Drouin Rotary Club and Drouin Men’s Shed have put their collective skill and funds together to custom build, fit and supply Olivia’s Place with new shelving to help them better use the space at the Queen Street, Warragul premises.
Olivia’s Place moved into its current location in January.
The move was timely, as there has been a significant increase in demand.
Two rooms in the building benefited from the shelving installation, with one area housing the items for Baby Bundles – an essential new gift given to families in need of a hand at the time of the birth of their baby – and the other area housing nappies and other items along with the material aid that has been allocated for distribution to families.
The shelving was a team effort with design by Leigh Bates and Merve Deppler of Drouin Rotary Club, cut by the Drouin Men’s Shed, built by Roger Playdon and installed by Roger and Maxwell Scott, also of Drouin Rotary.
“At the moment we have more than 30 families receiving some level of support and a further eight on our waiting list,” Olivia’s Place centre manager Kirsten Finger said.
“The new shelving enables us to more efficiently address the material supports required by families, with the ability to collate and distribute items for up to six families at a time.
“We are extremely grateful for the support of the Rotary Club of Drouin, who have showed an interest in and support of our activities for over three years now, and the shelving has had a huge impact on our ability to function more effectively in a space that serves a purpose tailored to our service delivery.“
The organisation also needs volunteers who are willing and available to help with managing the donated items and contributing to the ability to give these items a new lease on life and a second home for a family.
