Saturday was a stableford event and the first qualifying round of the Matchplay championsh­ips.

The top eight from each grade after next weeks second round will then go through to compete in the match play finals.

After the first round the current top eight from each grade is as follows:

Scratch - Mark Allen 71, Ryan Hammond 73, Jye Kruyer 78, David Ferguson 78, Shane Dwyer 79, Jason Stirzaker 79, Wayne Hood 79, Fred Roknic 79: A grade - Wayne Hood 40, Warren Cook 39, Ron Noncentini 39, Gooba Danilov 37, Dean Robbins 37, Paul Matthews 37, Mark Allen 37, Jason Stirzaker 37; B grade - John White 40, Matt Roberts 40, David Low 39, Stuart Low 39, Sam Clebney 38, Glen Ward 37, with three players tied in seventh place with 34 points; C grade - Lee Yuill 45, Calvin Reed 45, Neill Bell 40, Rod Gardner 40, Richard Ford 38, Gary Florence 38, David Blaney 37, Ritchie Thomas 36.

In the daily event, 104 players contested a stableford event with Wayne Hood shooting a great score of 40 points to win A grade.

B grade was won by John White with 40 points, however the real stars of the day came from two C graders who both shot incredible rounds of 45 points.

Calvin Rees would have to feel a little ripped off as he lost the count back to Lee Yuill. Both boys were the clear best scores of the day, yet it was Yuill who managed to have the better back nine to take the trophy.

Wednesday saw 69 players contest a stableford event.

Barry Dwyer shot an impressive 42 points off a handicap of 14 to win A grade.

B grade was won by Matt Roberts with 39 points, while it was another C grade domination with Ron Tomasetti shooting an excellent 44 points to be the clear best score of the day.
