Warragul and District cricketers Sam Batson and Jack Armour performed strongly to help Gippsland under 21s to victory iver Western Waves in the opening round.

With the Pride winning the toss and electing to bat first, Western Park all-rounder Batson struck a half century (51) from number seven to help the Pride post a competitiv­e total of 194.

Buln B uln wicket-keeper batsman Jack Armour also chimed in, scoring 18. Usually noted as a defensive batsman, Armour’s innings included a six that proved popular with teammates.

Batson and Armour also made strong contributi­ons as the Pride restricted the waves to 141 in reply.

Opening the bowling, Batson took two wickets to finish with 2/23 from eight overs, while Armour did his bit behind the stumps, gloving two catches.
